Job Description

Lead and take ownership of Design-to-Cost process for Powertrain products with a strong

focus on predetermined cost targets. Provide consideration of new innovative

manufacturing technologies, as well as, best use of installed equipment at MPT plants.

Support Sales and Finance during price buildup and the negotiation process.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Lead new quotation activities by providing Detailed Cost Estimates to include: process flows, capital investments, plant layout, tooling, workholding, gaging, perishable tooling, cycle times, planning and launch costs.
  2. Work with the manufacturing sites to establish, select, procure and install equipment to support the launch of new programs.
  3. Provide process engineering leadership, expertise and support for all powertrain processes: components and assemblies.
  4. Develop, refine, and lead manufacturing processes in all manufacturing locations, including plant layout concepts, supply base, logistics, process flows, and workforce utilization to attain maximum efficiency of installed capacity.
  5. Lead Design-to-Cost, evaluate product specifications of components and assemblies in close coordination with Product Engineering and Purchasing.
  6. Consider latest manufacturing technologies and flexible manufacturing concepts during layouts using lean manufacturing techniques.
  7. Develop master timing charts for manufacturing milestones.
  8. Maintain broad knowledge of product design, manufacture and assembly techniques.
  9. Evaluate and improve manufacturing methods for maximum efficiency.
  10. Communicate with vendors to understand and determine product specifications.
  11. Develop standard procedures to improve manufacture processes and to reduce overall cost.
  12. Other duties and responsibilities as necessary or as assigned.


Knowledge and Education

  1. B.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Minimum 8-10 years of work experience in processing automotive powertrain components and assemblies.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Strong analytical skills.
  5. Computer skills to include Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  6. Ability to travel up to 30% or more.
  7. Willingness for potential training in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering department in Austria for 3 to 6 months, based on experience.

Work Experience

  1. Strong knowledge of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies for powertrain products.
  2. Experience in Lean Manufacturing Techniques.
  3. Hands-on manufacturing floor experience coupled with exposure to suppliers.
  4. Automotive experience strongly desired.

  • While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by the manufacturing process.
