Overall Responsibilities:

  • The IT Applications Developer Job Family encompasses job responsibilities and accountability for various IT applications development, system administration, and support functions, necessary to ensure a stable and reliable application environment for the Company.
  • The application environment encompasses mission critical information systems such as Gas distribution, Hydro and Electrical Grid control systems, Electronic Measurement, and other business critical applications.
  • The job also includes the analysis and development of business applications, system interfaces, and other duties related to application system development life cycle.
  • The IT Applications Developer Job Family has 3 levels: Applications Developer, Senior Applications Developer, and Lead Applications Developer, which provides growth opportunity for our staff members.

Essential Responsibilities:

      The IT Applications Developer Job Family is Responsible and Accountable for:

  • Performing application system production support, maintenance, and development under the direction of the Manager and/or their designee.
  • Performing System Administration and Change Management functions, in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Leadership and execution of application development projects, working with IT service providers, and participation in cross-functional teams in advancing corporate initiatives, and delivering fully-integrated IT services and solutions.
  • Support of stable and reliable 24/7/365 operation of application services that meet business desired Service Levels.

      The IT Applications Developer Will be Expected to:

  • Be proficient with MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Be knowledgeable in industry standard software development life cycle methodologies (SDLC) such as RUP, scrum, Waterfall, etc.
  • Possess prior experience in leading and/or participating in large-scale projects and following project management methodology.
  • Understand of ITIL principles, and desire to continuously improve operations.
  • Be proficient with common software development tools and methods such as C++, C#, Visual Basic, and the .NET environment, IIS, XML, etc., including open source.
  • Have knowledge of MS Windows, MS SQL Server, MS Windows Server, MS Visio, and MS Project.
  • Have an understanding of relational database design concepts (table structure, one-to-many relationships) and how to query data using Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Develop system application deliverables such as screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, reports, system interfaces, test scripts, and training documents, with moderate-to-limited management direction.
  • Have prior experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and/or Electronic Measurement, and/or Building Automation, and/or plant automation control systems and applications.
  • Understand network infrastructure, including basic knowledge of network transport technologies (MPLS, Radio, Satellite).


      Applications Developer (Real Time Systems):

  • 4-year Degree in Computer Science, Engineering related area, OR equivalent experience.
  • General understanding of Real Time Systems, Commercial Natural Gas Distribution, or Electric generation systems is a plus.
