Our client, a leader in the Oil & Gas industry, currently has a need for an Applications Support Specialist to work on a contract-to-hire basis, in the downtown Pittsburgh area. 

Job Overview:

  • On a daily basis, the Applications Support Analyst analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer system. 
  • S/he confers with various business units to analyze current operational procedures, identify problems, and learn specific input and output requirements, such as forms of data input, how data is to be summarized, and formats for reports. 
  • S/he is responsible for executing configuration, training, support, maintenance, and improvement of corporate, in the case Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) platforms, such as Intelex and Enviance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Set up and/or maintain users (e.g., assign licenses, reset passwords, resolve locked user accounts).
  • Apply the appropriate security controls (e.g., profiles, permission sets, organization-wide defaults, roles and the role hierarchy, sharing rules, public groups).
  • Create and maintain custom objects, custom fields, page layouts, record types, and business process automation (e.g., process builder, approval processes).
  • Manage data updates including inserting, updating, and deleting records using data loaders.
  • Execute change control procedures (e.g., change sets).
  • Configure reports; provide data extracts, using MS SQL tools (SSRS, SQL Studio), and natively within EH&S systems.
  • Meet with end users to understand needs; using input from the users, evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of available upgrade and/or developmental options.
  • Coordinate user acceptance of test system changes and see to timely promotion to the Production system environment, with minimal disruption to the user base.
  • Produce technical documentation, for new and existing applications.
  • Provide technical expertise/recommendations, in assessing new IT software projects and initiatives, to support and enhance existing systems.
  • Perform IT-related duties during working hours and, when necessary, provide after-hours support.
  • Analyze data contained in the corporate database; identify data integrity issues, with existing and proposed systems.
  • Ability to lead projects, from small-to-medium complexity.
  • Create training materials and user documentation, and maintain such documentation, as business needs evolve.
  • Continually improve technical skills, as they relate to all supported areas; keep up-to-date on industry standards and evolving technology.
  • Review, analyze, modify web-based application software, to extend business functionality and increase processing and reporting efficiency.
  • Maintain source code for any integrations or custom-built applications.

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to self-teach new technologies.
  • Deep technical expertise and experience in functional design, user interface design, and development and deployment of small-to-large application solutions across multiple technologies and platforms, including issues related to integration and interconnectivity between applications, databases, and technology platforms.
  • Practical experience in software engineering tools and best practice, and application development.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience through actual solution implementations.
  • Ability to support existing environments, manage multiple tasks, and stay focused.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage small, individual development projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years in an Applications support role; specifically, configuring web-based workflow systems.
  • Ideally, experience with Intelex (Safety) and Enviance (Environmental), or other EH&S systems
  • Experience in configuration, testing, and deployment of subject matter expert-defined functionality, within EH&S Systems.
  • SQL knowledge – basic scripting and coding.
  • Experience with XML and configuring XML-based systems.
  • Experience programmatically accessing Web APIs is a plus, but not required.
  • HTML & CSS experience will be beneficial, but not required.
