Job Description

Junior PeopleSoft HCM Developer

Detroit, MI

6 Months Contract, potential for extension


Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related discipline from an accredited institution, or comparable work experience.


  • Must have at least four (4) years of experience implementing and/or upgrading PeopleSoft ERP systems with Oracle as the database engine.
  • Must have at least four (4) years of experience implementing/upgrading PeopleSoft HCM.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience implementing/upgrading PeopleSoft North American payroll, Time and Labor.
  • Must have the ability to run all Time and Labor, Payroll processes in order to calculate production payroll.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience with HCM 9.2.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience with Talent Acquisition Management 9.0 and above.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience writing PeopleCode, and developing PeopleSoft customizations and extensions of delivered functionality.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience developing SQR’s from user requirements.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience with PeopleTools 8.5 or higher.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Strong development using Application Design, Application Packages, Application Engine, and Component Interfaces.
  • Must have experience applying PUM upgrades from the vendor, while maintaining the organization’s customizations and PeopleSoft extensions.


  • The PeopleSoft Junior Developer and Functional Production Support will work with cross-functional teams to maintain, troubleshoot, and customize all production modules of PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 (Human Resources, Talent Acquisition Management, Performance Management, Employee Self Service (ESS/MSS), Time and Labor, and Payroll for North America. In addition, this resource is expected to be able to troubleshoot Production issues.
  • The PeopleSoft Developer is expected utilize PeopleSoft development tools, and have the ability to help with the analysis, development, and implement technical solutions that meet the HCM business needs for the organization. In order to drive the District forward, the junior PeopleSoft Developer is expected to be able to understand the Functionality of the HCM modules, participate in fit/gap design sessions, work within a project plan, and contribute to a cross functional team to implement and customize new functionality. 

Duties/Responsibilities & Functions:

  • Under the direction of the IT Director, the tasks include but are not limited to the following:
  • 24/7 support Production of Time and Labor, Talent Acquisition Management, and Payroll for North America.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in order to execute projects that provide value to the District and the people it serves.
  • Analyze vendor release notes.
  • Follow accepted software development lifecycle processes to deliver mission-critical HCM ERP software, and interfaces to Finance and outside vendors.
  • Gather and document project requirements by working directly with end users and organizational stakeholders;
  • Represent end users in discussions with business leads.
  • Resolve end-user support requests;
  • Suggest and implement improvements to processes and technology infrastructure.
  • Resolve customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Resolve server-related issues and support vendor-provided software.
  • Ability to multitask large projects.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
