Network Specialist 

OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for designing, developing and implementing network Infrastructure as required by business units. This includes but is not limited to LAN, Wireless and WAN environments. This person will also be a point of contact for resolving operational issues in mentioned environments.

DIMENSIONS

The success of the enterprise requires reliable and secure network infrastructure which enables access to applications and services from any locations, both internal to well as external as per permitted by security policies.

The network specialist works closely with external service providers as well as with internal resources to scope, size, design and implement cost effective and reliable network solutions as per customer request.

General:

  • Demonstrates to be a flexible team player that performs well in international virtual teams.
  • Provides technical support to reach goals and objectives that are in-line with business needs and requirements.
  • Works closely with external service providers to implement best in class network solutions.
  • Drives operational excellence by applying appropriate tactical and strategic project management, incident management and change management.
  • Ensures adherence to operating policy, procedures, and controls.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives.

Functional:

  • Works closely with business unit representatives to determine network requirements.
  • Develops global standards for Network Services in close relation with Network Security team.
  • Translates network infrastructure requirements into functional specifications and works closely with external managed services providers to design and implement network solutions according to global networking standards. This includes organic growth as well as integration of new locations and networks as well as disentanglement of divested locations.
  • Ensures execution excellence by performing project management and change management methodologies while implementing or changing network solutions.
  • Performs a hand over of installed services and network modifications to the Network Operations team as soon as network changes have been tested and accepted by the internal customer.
  • Participates in supplier scorecard processes and actively participates in the validation and execution of service improvement plans.
  • Performs application performance analyses and develops service improvement plans.
  • Designs, implements and maintains bandwidth prioritization and optimization tools.
  • Develops, implements and maintains network monitoring and exception alerting tools.
  • Provides 2nd and 3rd escalation level support in order to resolve operational issues.
  • Leads change management and project management initiatives and participates in incident management initiatives as required.
  • Participates in RFI and RFP processes to specify requirements and validate technical network services proposals.
  • Validates Architecture reviews with regards to network solutions
  • Maintains the Sarbanes-Oxley Control Environment to document operational procedures and processes and ensures appropriate controls are developed and executed according plan.
  • Participates in providing information requested during internal and external audits.
  • Designs, develops and maintains systems and processes to ensure SOD with regards to systems changes and security.
  • Supports auditing initiatives and performs internal audits to ensure site network infrastructures are setup according to SOX procedures and processes.

This function requires expert knowledge on the areas above and a broad understanding of General IT and application related subjects.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience, preferably in a Fortune 500 company
  • Track record of working and actively participating in global virtual teams and demonstrated ability to work under and report to remote management.
  • Minimum of 3 years operational experience with regards wide area network services in an international setting.
  • In depth Cisco routing, switching and wireless experience: possesses at minimum CCNP level knowledge of network equipment and is experienced with routing protocols like BGP.
  • Is experienced in working with cloud environments like MS Azure, and AWS Webhosting.
  • Ability to work well with people from different disciplines and cultures with varying degrees of technical experience.
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, is critical for this position.
