Title:                Programmer/Analyst, Software Developer

Location:          Troy, MI

Type:                Contract to Hire / Direct Hire

Responsible For:

  • Designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining software systems, which meet our Organization's and our Clients’ needs
  • Assisting in detailing specifications for applications, to ensure they are built properly 
  • Assisting in documenting those applications, to ensure they are easier to maintain, thereafter
  • Use a variety of computer programming languages, applications, and third-party tools, to develop software requested
  • Staying up-to-date, regarding the latest and greatest development tools and methodologies
  • Continually looking for ways to improve the Organization's software in quality, speed, and reliability

This Position:

  • The Programmer/Analyst position resides within the Information Technology Department, along with the Quality Assurance, Support, and Production Departments
  • The IT Department employs a staff of Programmer/Analysts with varying levels of skill, experiences, and strengths. Each Programmer/Analyst is assigned a primary module of focus, depending on skill level and needs of the company
  • The Programmer/Analyst is expected to be able to represent themselves, the department, and the company with the highest level of professionalism, and maintain a positive attitude, at all times
  • The Programmer/Analyst reports directly to the Director of Application Development, and has the opportunity for advancement within the Organization


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science is preferred, or similar work experience
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Secondary or Vocational courses, or certificates of a technical nature, are a plus

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of recent experience, with .NET using Visual Basic
  • Minimum 5-7 years of recent SQL server development, including complex triggers and views 
  • 2-4 years of SQL reporting experience is preferred

  • Works with commercial software packages and third-party tools
  • Designs, writes, and tests new software programs, in our company framework 
    • Mostly 'rich' client applications, but may also be web applications
  • Ability to develop user-friendly applications, which are easy to use and follow
  • Ability to do screen mock-ups 
  • Ability to analyze existing systems, and identify areas needing modification and improvement
  • Assists in creating technical specifications and test plans
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications
  • Implements new software into production environment, via agreed upon processes
  • Well-versed in company/department standards
    • Follows standards, and supplies ideas to improve them, as well
  • Ensures that projects satisfy all needs and standards, before turning over to others for review
    • Reviews and tests all aspects/needs of project, to ensure working as specified
    • Ensures standards are met, by filling out checklists when applicable
  • Assists in testing software 'build' before putting in live production environment

Additional Responsibilities, May be Assigned as Needed:

  • Special Projects (as assigned by the Director, CIO, or upper Management)
  • Preparation of documentation; system, procedural, balancing, etc.

Performance Standard:

  • Minimum 99% accuracy, for Projects passed on to others as ready for review
  • Minimum 99% accuracy, of meeting department/company standards
  • Minimum 99% accuracy, for checklists filled out and turned over to others
  • Minimum 99% accuracy, for items put into live production environment
  • At least one idea per (period?), for improvements to software system, database structure, etc.
  • At least one idea per (period?), for improvement to system procedures, processes, etc.
