Job Description

The goal of an Agile Coach is to improve overall project success by increasing collaboration, innovation, and introducing techniques that promote adaptability and flexibility in the face of unpredictable circumstances. The Agile Coach is responsible for guiding teams to ensure delivery of business value via both Agile Scrum and Kanban frameworks, providing team members with feedback and means of improvement, catalyzing organizational growth and answering questions. They provide hands-on support to all employees, collaborating with people across widely varying levels and roles, leading teams toward further understanding and adoption of Agile as well as overall company growth and improvement.

The Agile Coach ensures the philosophies and standards of Scrum and Kanban are understood and followed by the team in their effort to deliver services, solutions and products. The Agile Coach reinforces the Team’s practice and protects the Team from external impediments to help it remain focused on a sustainable, predictable pace of delivery. Agile Coaches must be assertive about adherence to Agile processes and enthusiastic about Agile practices and their benefits. They are both educators and coaches, and thus possess great interpersonal skills, teaching abilities, and a capacity to inspire and motivate.

Role Responsibilities 

Agile Coach Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively work with various Scrum and Kanban based Agile teams within IT to implement consistent utilization and reporting standards.
  • Understand the backlog and educate the various and diverse teams regarding how work can be managed and velocity improved.
  • Implement metrics that both Scrum and Kanban based teams can leverage to measure performance and drive continuous improvements
  • Support the Product Owner as required, including backlog refinement, communicating information about the product and planning product releases.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define and implement increments of business value including changes to people, processes and technology in accordance with established policy guidelines and standards.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Actively contribute to the Bank’s collective effort to continuously improve our Agile practice and achieve operational excellence.
    Educate and assist product owners, delivery process managers and team members on the Agile framework, key Agile concepts, ceremonies and deliverables.

Delivery Process Manager Responsibilities

  • When necessary, play the Delivery Process Manager role to facilitate all team ceremonies (Planning, Reviews, Refinement, Retrospectives, etc)
  • When playing the Delivery Process Manager role, function as a servant leader for the Product Owner and Product/Development Team.
  • Create and support an environment wherein the team can collaborate, solve problems and deliver solutions effectively.
  • Work closely with Product Owner and Development/Product Team to establish the acceptance criteria for all user stories and make sure that all user stories are verified before the end of the sprint.
  • Work with the Product Owner to ensure the work completed by the product development team has visibility and is understood by the stakeholders.
  • Ensure Team adherence to agreed practice and quality measures and provides supporting guidance. Owner of the Scrum/Agile/Kanban process used by the team.
  • Identify, analyze and manage risks to the team’s productivity and stability.
  • Communicate a variety of information about the team broadly and transparently including the health of the team and the team’s progress using appropriate metrics and reporting methods.
  • Track the team’s velocity, understand the deltas between sprints, assist the team in monitoring trends in velocity and react accordingly to changes.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certifications

  • College or university degree in an applicable field or relevant work experience with similar products required.
  • One or more of the following certifications(s) are required:
  • Certified Enterprise Coach – (Scrum Alliance)
  • Certified Team Coach – (Srum Alliance)
  • Certified Scrum Trainer – (Scrum Alliance)
  • One or more of the following certifications(s) are required:
  • Agile Certified Practitioner – (PMI)
  • Certified Scrum Master – (Scrum Alliance)

Job Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years’ work experience as an Agile coach.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Information Technology, Finance, Banking, Treasury Operations or Capital Markets preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Extensive experience working on cross-functional teams.
  • Prior experience as a Scrum Master for multiple teams in an iterative delivery model.
  • SAFE knowledge and experience are a plus.
  • Organizational change management (OCM) experience is a plus.
